Join Historic St. Mary’s City for Frost Fair, a festive winter celebration inspired by the holiday markets of centuries past. Enjoy a day filled with family fun, live entertainment, and holiday cheer throughout the museum grounds.

Highlights include:

The State House becomes the Gingerbread Zone with crafts and photo opportunities
Kids’ Secret Shop, where children can choose a special gift for family members
Holiday decorations, carolers, and visits from Santa aboard the museum’s “People Mover” holiday tram
Fire pits, s’mores, food trucks, and hot cocoa
Local artisan and merchant vendors for holiday shopping
Festive film and kids’ dance party in the Pavilion
Copper Rein Horse Trailer Bar will be open for business with beer, wine, and a signature prosecco holiday cocktail

History of the Frost Fairs

Between 1607 and 1814, the river Thames would freeze for months at a time. Beginning in 1607, there were seven total Frost Fairs held over the years when the Thames froze, allowing vendors to set up booths on the ice. In 2025, HSMC will modernize this event with a holiday village featuring artisans, warm beverages, and carolers.
